Self-reinvention
In the course of almost 40 years, I have pursued writing, graphic arts, performing arts (music), culinary arts, animal husbandry (arthropods, reptiles, fish, birds, and various mammals), Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, biological science (my first degree from the University of Kansas), and clinical laboratory science (my second degree from the University of Kansas Medical Center). I have served in laboratories, specifically hospital laboratories. I was surrounded by chemicals, gardens of bacteria, potentially hazardous bodily fluids of strangers, and analyzers humming haunting melodies. There was a binder labeled, “Ebola SOP.” Yes, I’m a scientist. Then, I became a substitute teacher in the neighboring school district where my children attend. That is a different kind of adventure, and a bit of shape-shifting was required of me!
During all that, Jesus led me to my even-tempered husband who helps keep my steam under control. We have three bright children. My children and I spend almost all our time at home, which is where my inventions are taking form: Inventions of new cumulative uses for what I’ve learned in my life, inventions of courteous, hygienic, scholarly, strong, and loving children (a work-in-progress), and inventions of board games and other activities both to challenge the mind and to bring people together. Also, there’s the formation of a duck and bunny farm, but that is not official even though we have almost achieved “Trouble with Tribbles” status.
It is my hope that you enjoy what I have schemed for you!
